Mission

Zion-Concord’s purpose centers on educating the whole child, cultivating spiritual, academic, emotional, physical, and social growth among all students.

Our philosophy of Lutheran education is rooted in the shared confession of Jesus Christ as taught in Holy Scripture. For more on what we believe, read about our Lutheran beliefs. Zion Concord School admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.

Means of Accomplishing our Mission

  • Highest Quality Christian Education: Our small class sizes paired with faculty that have years of experience assist with giving the students the highest quality Christian Education. Zion Lutheran Church and the Board of Education are constantly looking for ways to improve what is offered both in and outside of the classroom academically, socially, emotionally, and physically in the form of extracurricular activities.

  • Nurture and enrich students souls through the teaching of holy scripture: Zion- Concord has many opportunities in which to allow the Holy Spirit to work in the souls of the students. Assist Parents in raising their children with reverence to God through weekly chapel services, Religion classes taught daily, and weekly choir and music classes. Concord has a faculty that aims to share with students their experiences of living Christ-centered lives.

Zion-Concord Lutheran School is accredited from the National Lutheran School Association (NLSA) and is a state recognized school by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE)

Academics

Academics are a high priority at Zion-Concord Lutheran School.  Our curriculum is based on the educational standards of the state of Illinois.  Students are challenged to bring out their best performance and to develop a work ethic that will assist them in being successful in both their future education and vocation.  Our academic program is comprehensive and seeks to integrate technology, while also applying traditional approaches where appropriate.  Our graduates leave Zion-Concord Lutheran School ready to take on the challenges of the high school, whether public or private.

School and Class Size

Zion-Concord Lutheran School has approximately 95 students.  In the Kindergarten, through 8th grade, there are approximately 55 students.  On average we have 11 students per classroom with combined grades in each setting.  The smaller class sizes and combined grades allow teachers to differentiate instruction and provide learning experiences that teach children of all ability levels.

Staff

We have dedicated and qualified Christian teachers and staff who are state-certified with a wealth of experience, many holding advanced degrees.  The teaching staff engages in professional development to remain current with educational practices and resources.

Spiritual

Wednesday morning chapel services are held in our church for the entire student population.  Parents are encouraged to attend these services.  Our staff provides religious instruction and integration of Christian principles on a daily basis.

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, founded in 1837, is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS). We believe, teach, and confess the doctrine of the evangelical faith as it is taught by the Holy Scriptures and faithfully confessed in the Book of Concord of 1580, which includes Luther's Small Catechism. Every worship services at Zion is centered around the Lutheran Service Book.

Therefore we believe in the Triune God: God the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ His only Son, who for us men and for our salvation, became man to suffer and die for the sins of all people and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over sin, death, and Satan, salvation is through Christ alone; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through hearing God's Word and rightly receiving His Holy Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, three persons, one God.

Consequently, we are committed to the pure preaching of God’s Word and the right administration of the Holy Sacraments, catechesis of all people in the Christian faith, and liturgical worship consistent with our Lutheran heritage. We are an evangelical and orthodox Lutheran congregation, proclaiming Jesus Christ crucified, risen, and reigning for the salvation of the entire world.
